I am pleased to nominate Steve Buhler for this award. Although I recently joined the Transportation and Manufacturing Services team, I have already seen Steve exemplify BYU’s values through his exceptional service to both customers and our team. Steve consistently demonstrates respect for others, fosters a sense of unity, and strives to exceed customer expectations in everything he does.
Steve shows respect for his colleagues by never speaking negatively about others, being a thoughtful listener, and actively working to ensure everyone feels like a valued part of the team. A great example of this is his initiative to change the name of our monthly luncheons. Previously, it was called the “Student Appreciation Luncheon,” but Steve noticed some employees hesitated to attend because they didn’t directly work with students. Recognizing the importance of inclusivity, Steve proposed renaming it to “Team Appreciation Luncheon” so that everyone would feel welcomed and appreciated. Since then, participation has increased, underscoring how even small gestures can foster a stronger, more inclusive team.
Steve’s commitment to customer service is equally inspiring. Despite his busy workload, he is always willing to go above and beyond to meet requests. No matter how involved he is in a project, he never hesitates to pause and assist anyone in need. I have never heard him say no to a request; instead, he tackles every challenge with a positive, “can-do” attitude, consistently exceeding expectations with a smile.
I wholeheartedly recommend him for this award for his leadership, inclusivity, and dedication to others.
